The early signs of glaucoma typically don’t present any symptoms, which is why it’s often referred to as “The Silent Thief of Sight.”
The best detection of glaucoma is through annual eye exams. Glaucoma does run in families and is also prevalent in certain age groups and ethnicity. Left untreated, glaucoma can lead to vision loss and eventual blindness.

Comprehensive eye exams at Visionary Eye Care include numerous checks and tests for glaucoma. Dr. Metzger and Dr. Gates can recommend additional testing if any suspicion of glaucoma is present. From there, we can start treatment if needed. If it has been more than a year since your last eye exam, contact our team to schedule your appointment!

Anne Metzger, RN, OD, received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University after working as a Registered Nurse for 10 years.

As an RN, Dr. Metzger primarily worked with children at the Children’s Hospital in Denver. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Florida.

The importance of children’s vision is at the core of Dr. Metzger’s role as an optometrist. Due to personal childhood challenges with vision and visual functioning, Dr. Metzger has a deep understanding of childhood experiences related to school performance and how visual functioning has a direct relationship with a child’s learning experience in and out of the classroom.

In addition to her passion of providing vision care to children, Dr. Metzger has 12 years of experience offering eye care to residents of long-term health care facilities. This experience has allowed Dr. Metzger to develop unique ways of providing eye care to the senior population, and she continues to enjoy caring for seniors’ eye health through her work at Visionary Eye Care.
